Youth Ice Skating Lesson
**REGISTRATION FOR PARENT AND CHILD, PRE-STAR AND ONE STAR IS CLOSED.  WE HAVE OPENED A WAITING LIST FOR THESE PROGRAMS**

Students enrolled in Session Two lessons will be able to skate for free at six public skating sessions. At public skate, the front desk will look up your child's name and mark them off the list.


IF SIMSBURY SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, CLASSES ARE CANCELLED FOR THE DAY AND WILL BE MADE UP AT THE END OF THE SESSION.  WE WILL EMAIL PARENTS AND PLACE AN ANNOUNCEMENT ON THE MAIN WEB PAGE ABOUT CLASS CANCELLATIONS.  PLEASE BE SURE TO OPT IN TO RECEIVE OUR CANCELLATION EMAILS FOR THESE IMPORTANT UPDATES. 

RENTAL SKATES:  EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE FREE, YOU MUST REGISTER FOR YOUR RENTAL SKATES IN ORDER TO RESERVE A PAIR IN YOUR SIZE.  RENTAL SKATES ARE AVAILABLE UNDER LESSON SKATE RENTALS, ON THE REGISTRATION PAGE. Click Here to go to Lesson Skate Rentals




General Information
  • Session 2 lessons meet six times, Wednesdays or Thursdays, for 35 minutes! Emphasis is on basic skills for the recreational as well as the serious skater.
  • DOUBLE RUNNERS ARE NOT ALLOWED FOR LESSONS
  • For more Information call 860-658-3836. For cancellation messages check your email. YOU WILL ONLY RECEIVE AN EMAIL ABOUT CANCELLATIONS IF YOU HAVE OPTED IN TO RECEIVE CANCELLATION EMAILS. Classes are automatically cancelled if school is cancelled or there is an early dismissal due to inclement weather. Makeups will be announced.

Free Practice Times
  • Free practice time is now offered with all skating lessons!
  • Students in the 4:15pm classes may stay 35 minutes after class (until 5:25pm) to practice.
  • Students in the 4:55pm classes may come 35 minutes early (at 4:20pm) to practice.

Class Descriptions
  • PARENT & CHILD This class is designed to acclimate preschool age children to instruction and a fun skating environment with help from a parent or caregiver! Child must be the correct age when class begins. Adult should have some skating ability. Instruction will be focused on the child. Only the child will be signed up - adult is included. Helmets are required for children.
  • PRE-STAR Class provides ice acclimation and an introduction to skating skills with an emphasis on fun and safe recreational skating. Helmets are required for children.
  • 1 STAR; FOR A CHILD WHO HAS PASSED PRE-STAR LEVEL. Course includes: March and glide across rink; fall down and get up properly; back wiggle; 2 foot glides and dip; intro to forward swizzles, snowplow scrape. Helmets are recommended.
  • 2 STAR; FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED 1 STAR OR HAVE TAKEN, BUT NOT PASSED 2 STAR. Course includes: Forward swizzels across rink; snowplow stop, 1-foot glide on left & right foot, back swizzles.
  • 3 STAR; FOR THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED 2 STAR OR HAVE TAKEN, BUT NOT PASSED 3 STAR. Course includes: Forward stroking; forward pumps on circle, One foot glide on circle both directions; back swizzles across rink; T push; T stop; forward lunge; 2 foot turn forward to backward; hockey stop.

Rental Skates
  • EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE FREE, YOU MUST REGISTER FOR YOUR RENTAL SKATES IN ORDER TO RESERVE A PAIR IN YOUR SIZE. RENTAL SKATES ARE AVAILABLE UNDER LESSON SKATE RENTALS, ON THE PROGRAM REGISTRATION PAGE>
  • Rental skates for lessons are available to use at each class. You will pick them up in the skate room before class and return them after that day's class.
  • Please be sure that you are renting skates for the SAME DAY OF THE WEEK AS THE LESSONS YOU ARE SIGNING UP FOR.
