Fencing Girls Posing in Gear
This program is open to boys and girls beginner to intermediate level fencers. The program will teach the basic fencing fundamentals, develop proper technique and bouting experience. Every aspect of fencing is covered, developing a solid skill foundation to build upon after camp. On the first day of camp safety rules, regarding the proper use of the fencing weapon (foil) and protective gear are introduced; student are quizzed on safety rules each day. A tournament is held on the last day of camp; parents and visitors are encouraged to attend. Equipment: Fencing equipment will be supplied (mask, gloves, foil, fencing jacket, underarm protector; chest protectors (for girls)); masks are disinfected after each use. Participants should wear sneakers, T-shirt, and long pants without pockets or holes (preferably sweat pants) or shorts/capris. Typical Day: Review Safety rules & Warm-up/stretching 10 minutes Drills & Games (footwork ) 45 minutes Break 10 minutes Drills & Games (bladework) 45 minutes Break 10 minutes Bouting (sparing) 45 minutes Put Equipment Away & review what was learned 15 minutes Tournament Structure 1st round - Round Robin (Class is divided into 2 group) 2nd Round – Direct Elimination to top 4 fencers Fence off for 1st – 4th place Prizes (snack treats) will be awarded to all participants
