Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge
Construction Announcement:  The Town of Simsbury will be undertaking a large scale renovation of the Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge that will begin in October 2023 and likely go through the end of the summer in  2024.  We will not be accepting any reservations for public gatherings (weddings/anniversaries/photos) for this October/November and all of 2024 until we know the Bridge work is completed.  There will be no flowers on the Bridge in 2024 and the park adjacent to the Bridge will not be open to the public until the construction is completed.

The Old Drake Hill Bridge was built in 1892, spanning 183 feet over the Farmington River. In 1992 it was replaced by a new two-lane bridge. In 1995 the Old Drake Hill Bridge became Simsbury's "Flower Bridge" through the hard work of a coalition of community groups, town officials and local businesses. Modest gardens of annuals and perennials were planted at both entrances to the bridge, and wooden flower boxes, made by local high school students, were hung along the railings. Dedicated volunteers continue to plant and maintain the flower bridge, which has become a favorite destination to local residents as well as tourists visiting the area. Since its inception, the flower bridge has developed as a favorite spot for wedding photographs, small weddings, and community group dinners as well as scouting ceremonies and a spot to view crew boat races. Picnic tables and benches are onsite, however no other ammenities are currently available. The bridge is a public site, but reservations can be made by calling the Simsbury Culture, Parks and Recreation Department at 860-658-3836. Weddings are charged $50 and non-profit groups are charged $25, to help defray costs of this vounteer-run gem in Simsbury.
