Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge
The Old Drake Hill Bridge was built in 1892, spanning 183 feet over the Farmington River. In 1992 it was replaced by a new two-lane bridge. In 1995 the Old Drake Hill Bridge became Simsbury's "Flower Bridge" through the hard work of a coalition of community groups, town officials and local businesses. Modest gardens of annuals and perennials were planted at both entrances to the bridge, and wooden flower boxes, made by local high school students, were hung along the railings. Dedicated volunteers continue to plant and maintain the flower bridge, which has become a favorite destination to local residents as well as tourists visiting the area. Since its inception, the flower bridge has developed as a favorite spot for wedding photographs, small weddings, and community group dinners as well as scouting ceremonies and a spot to view crew boat races. Picnic tables and benches are onsite, however no other ammenities are currently available. The bridge is a public site, but reservations for groups of up to 24 people for the pavilion can be made by calling the Simsbury Culture, Parks and Recreation Department at 860-658-3836. Reservations are charged $50 per hour. Fees collected help defray costs of this volunteer-run gem in Simsbury. Reservation requests from for-profit entities, including businesses, will not be accepted.

2025 Color Palette Theme
For the past few years, The Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge Committee has chosen a theme for the color palette of the flowers used on the Bridge.  The 2025 color palette was inspired by the works of reknowned artist, Georgia O'Keeffe. Click here for more information on this year's Old Drake Hill Flower Bridge theme.
