Onion Mountain Orienteering Course
Orienteering Course created by Scott Miller as an Eagle Scout Project Post # Directions 1 From Onion Mountain Information Board head 300 degrees up the blue trail for 125 yards. At the intersection, head north on the red trail 30 yards to the second red marked tree on the right side of the trail. Head east off the trail until you reach the post. 2 Proceed back to the intersection of the blue, red, and orange trails. Go up the orange trail for 30 yards until you pass the large rock pile on the left. Immediately after passing the rock pile, head 240 degrees uphill. When you reach the top, continue to go 240 degrees until you reach the post. 3 Head southeast down the hill until you reach the blue trail. When you get to the blue trail head west until you come to a tree with two blue blazes and a white dot. Head 170 degrees off the trail until you reach the post. 4 Go back to the tree with the blue and white blazes and proceed south along the blue trail until you come to where the yellow trail merges with the blue trail. Look for the yellow trail sign. Head south off the trail from this point until you reach the post. 5 Return to the yellow trail sign and go east along the yellow trail. When you reach the point where the yellow trail splits, head southeast. When the yellow trail makes a sharp right turn, stop, and proceed northeast off the trail to the post. 6 Return to the yellow trail and head southwest. When you reach the y-shaped tree with the yellow blaze on your right you are getting close. Proceed along the path until you reach a tree with a yellow and white blaze. Turn east and go to the post. 7 Return to the yellow trail and continue southwest along the trail. Keep going until you see an orange trail sign on your left. From the sign, get off the trail and head southwest until you reach the post. 8 From the orange trail sign head 30 degrees down the blue and yellow trail until you see the post along side the trail. 9 Continue north on the blue and yellow trail until you reach the point where the yellow trail breaks off. Follow the yellow trail until you reach where the yellow trail splits. At this intersection head south off the trail to the post. 10 Proceed back to the intersection and continue northeast along the trail until you come to a tree on the right with a white blaze on it. Head 120 degrees off the trail until you reach the post. Go back to the yellow trail and go in a northeast direction back to the information board.
