Simsbury Spinners Baton Twirling Teams -Winter/Spring 2017
Team Twirling Program Description: The Simsbury Spinners Recreation Twirling Program is designed to provide all students the opportunity to advance their twirling and performance skills in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. All twirlers are encouraged to strive for their personal best The Team Twirling program runs from September through June. Registration is completed twice throughout the school year. Twirlers are encouraged to twirl the entire school year to fully benefit from the once per week instructional format and enjoy the multiple performance opportunities scheduled.
Registration will occur in September for all Session (Sept.-Nov/Dec) and then again in January for the Winter/Spring Session (Jan-May)
Team placement: Entry level twirlers who are in K-4th grade will begin on the Crystal Team and will practice on Tuesday days. All other twirlers will remain on the same team unless their skill level has surpassed the requirement of their current team. As always, Colleen Tighe is available to discuss individual twirlers placement and progress at all times.
Schedule: This year's team classes will be taught at Boy Scout Hall (Tuesday Teams) and Henry James Memorial School-back gym (Friday Teams). There will be no classes on Simsbury School Holidays, Vacations or Snow Days. If your class falls on a Simsbury School Holiday look for scheduled make up on Wednesday of the same week. Tuesday team classes will begin Tuesday, 1/10. Friday Team classes will begin Friday, 1/13. ** Please note starting location for Friday teams! **

Starter Crystal Team- Tuesday 5:00- 5:45 pm K- 4th grade
This is a first year program. It is helpful to have some basic twirl skills but it is not required. Twirlers will be challenged to gain proficiency with basic twirls such as flat spin, palm spin w/pop up, side spin, hand-over-hand, thumb toss, forward & reverse twirl and finger twirlers.
Juvenile- Sapphire Team- Tuesday 5:45 - 6:45pm 3-6th grade
Sapphire Team is designed for the seasoned recreational twirlers, who enjoy working on more advanced skills. These girls will be challenged to develop more advanced skills in a non-competitive atmosphere. Sapphire Team Twirlers will must exhibit proficiency with basic twirl skills such as flat spin, side spin, hand over hand, thumb toss, horizontal toss, vertical & horizontal finger twirlers, flourish, fishtails (1 hand) , 1 spin, double elbow roll, half turn. Emerging Skills: 2 spin, fishtails both hands, horizontal 1 spin, 8 finger under bridge, fish tail carry. This team is perfect for girls who are certain they want to develop their twirling as a Simsbury Spinners.
Junior Performance Team Friday 6:00-7:30 pm at Tootin Hills 4th -8th grade
** Team will return to HJMS on Friday from 5:30-7pm in early March
Junior Performance Team is designed for those twirlers who consider twirling as a main activity. These girls will be challenged with more advanced skills and will be required to increase the practice time at home as well as take advantage of periodic drop-in practices when offered. Junior Performance Team twirlers must exhibit proficiency with vertical 1 spin, Horizontal 1 spin, backhand toss, ½ turn to right, fishtails in both hands, vertical & horizontal finger twirlers, double elbow roll, 2 baton fundamentals. Emerging Skills: vertical & horizontal 2 spin, fishtail carry in both hands, double elbow roll pull out, 1/2 turn to right. Junior Team Twirlers will also support additional performance events, Spinners ACS Twirl-a-thon and will have the opportunity to participate in one northeastern competition.
Senior Performance Team 9th -12th grade
**** Registration for Senior Performance Team will be done directly with Coach Tighe. This team will no longer be run through Simsbury Parks & Recreation

Other offerings presented by Simsbury Spinners Program
Spring 2017: A variety of beginner classes will be offered in the spring to allow for new student to be introduced to the sport of baton twirling. All students are then invited to march with the Simsbury Spinners in the Memorial Day Parades held in Tariffville and Simsbury.
Summer 2017: Spinners Twirling Camp is typically offered the last week of summer and is held Monday-Thursday for 1 ½hr-3 ½ hours daily - determined by age and skill level of twirlers.
